The global iPhone fans are delirious with excitement as Australia anticipates the launch of Apple’s iPhone4 this week. The designers having an experience of three years now, designed something that constitutes of something of all that they have learned until yet. No doubt the fourth iteration of iPhone seems as promising as ever, with it bright and bold display, longer battery life, this thinnest smartphone predicts the hold of Apple in smartphone market to remain as intact and strong as ever.

Still, iPhone is not all that a smartphone market can offer, if iPhone designs are not as satisfying to your aesthetic sense as you want them to be, Androids have a lot to offer, with its latest smartphone HTC’s flagship Desire. Few months have passed since its introduction in the market, and it indeed proves to be a good alternative to iPhone.
Android for sure has had a long journey, from its haphazard software project to near the top position in the smartphone industry. HTC’s latest, Desire has proven a good alternative for iPhone. It looks just like the Nexus one with its 3.7in AMOLED display and all of its Android goodness. Its 1GHz application processor, an admirable build quality and a very efficient user customization managed through HTC’s Sense User interface make it even more appealing.
We see hence, that both the phones have their advantages and disadvantages, and it can be said without a doubt that both of them are worth the deal.
Talking about the navigation, it is fairly easy to decide, that HTC Desire takes control of the game here. You can either take the pain of turn by turn navigation or ask Google to do it for you. The HTC’s Sense user interface offers better options and choices over the iPhone. It might still be in its teething stage, but the overall look, changing of themes, backgrounds is far more fun in HTC’s desire and better than all those lesser known gratis apps on the iPhone that offer something similar. Here Desire is the winner without a doubt.
One of the most important battlefield for a touchscreen smartphone is the screen, iPhone with its 960×640, 326dip display, and IPS technology also used by the iPad, has the pixels on the screen undistinguishable for the human eye. The higher resolution and mega pixel density on the iPhone screen, described as the “retina” screen surely takes the lead, despite the fact that it lack AMOLED. It remains a fact that AMOLED may consume less power and has better video performance; it lacks the performance needed in sunlight. Trying to take a snap with your back turned to the sun may not be a good idea with AMOLED.
One advantage that Desire has over iPhone is its slightly larger screen; a 3 .7in screen is certainly a factor worth considering. The plastic rear casing maybe unpleasant for some, but it doesn’t actually belittle the overall build quality of Desire. One thing to ponder over though is that whether a larger phone or a heavier phone is better, iPhone being heavier than Desire, but slim to the point of the thinnest phone ever made as el Jobs claims and Desire being the larger phone, but at the same time having an advantage of a larger display. It should also be mentioned that rumors say iPhone suffers from reception issue, which can be confirmed or ruled off only after it has been investigated carefully enough after its launch in Australia.
It can be said without any confusion that both the phones are not stunners as long as imaging is considered. Still iPhone holds an advantage over Desire due to its HD quality video and iPod integration. iPhone on one hand has got itself LED flash and a better sensor and lens; the edge is its capability to capture video in 729p resolution. Whereas as long as media player applications are considered, Google wins the race due to its flexibility and drag-and-drop facility as an added feature. The mini video editing software for iPhone is IMovie, that come bundled too, but asks for extra cash.
The Apple iPhone will be available in Australia through many companies which include Telstra, Optus, VHA and Virgin Mobile, and will be launched there on June 30th of this year. The HTC Desires availability though remains exclusive, as Telstra reserves the right of its distribution in Australia
